Runescape scams are unfortunately rife within the Runescape community. I think the main reason for this is that you don’t even need any kind of account to play the game - you just create a character and play so there is just no comeback for the scammers out there. Runescape Scams - Account / Password Scam

First of all, a piece of basic advice - never give your account and password to anybody! Below is a sample of the kind of thing you’ll see to try and scam you out of your account:

You might see this as a comment on a blog, in a forum post, a Facebook group or whatever. This scam is simple because the scammer simply asks you for your account name and password. What do you think he’s going to do with it if you send it to him? He’s going to steal all your stuff!

Runescape Scams - The Fake Software Scam

There are a load of Runescape scams that take the form of third party software that is fake. There are actually a few genuine pieces of software for Runescape but many scammers cash in on this knowledge and knock out fake programs that look like the real ones and in fact do all sorts of nasty things such as:

• Stealing your player name & password
• Infecting your system with viruses
• Infecting your system with Spyware

You might wonder why people would want to infect your system with viruses and spyware? Well, as far as viruses go, it’s just fun for them. Some people just get a kick out of hurting others.

However the spyware has another motive. There are companies that pay programmers money on a ‘per install’ basis if they embed code in their program and that code collects your user information. So the scammer gets paid, and the company gets your user information!
