Runescape Banks
What are Runescape Banks?
In Runescape you have some space (your inventory) in which to carry items but this is limited to just 28 slots. Money occupies one slot. The Runescape banks are rather like banks in the real world where you can go and deposit money and items to retrieve later.
There are lots of reasons why you’ll want to make use of the bank system. Firstly, 28 slots simply isn’t a lot. There are some items that you might want to save up for later and if you try to carry them all in your backpack you will soon run out of room. More importantly though, is that when you die in Runescape you will lose all but three items in your inventory! This includes your cash!
Therefore its much safer to store your items and money in the bank before you go adventuring in the wilderness.
Finding & Using Runescape Banks
Banks are found all over Runescape, there is usually at least one in every major city. They are identified on the map by a yellow dollar sign.

Speak to any banker in the game to see the contents of your bank account. If you have set a pin you will be asked for it, then all the belongings you have placed in the bank will appear in the window. To withdraw one item left-click on it once. To withdraw many items right-click on the item and select an option from the menu.
The same holds for depositing. Left click an item in your inventory to deposit it in the game and right click to deposit many of the same items. To move things around within your bank window simply drag them with the mouse.
You will notice that in the bank, all items stack – even those items that do not stack in your inventory. For example if you mine a load of copper rocks, each piece will take up one slot in your inventory but when you put them in the bank, all of your copper rocks are stacked into a single slot. This allows you to hold a lot of items in the bank.
You only have a single account and all of the Runescape banks are all linked together so no matter where you are in the game, you have access to the same bank account which is very useful.
Quick Access Bank Deposit Boxes
The main bank booth will allow you full access to your bank account so that you can withdraw items and move things around. However if you are just depositing something then a quicker way is to use the deposit boxes:

These give you a quick display of your inventory and allows you to deposit only, you cannot withdraw. Runescape banks can become quite crowded, especially on the free worlds so these deposit boxes are a neat time saver.
Runescape Bank Notes
The key to making a lot of money in Runescape is trading in bulk with other players. I’ll often talk about this in the various guides on this site. Let’s say you want to sell 1000 Yew Logs to somebody, how long would that take when you can only put 24 on your inventory at a time? Bank notes are the solution to this problem.
Bank notes are simply a representation of a collection of items. Recall that items will stack in the bank when they don’t stack in your inventory. What this means is that you can withdraw your entire stack of 1000 Yew Logs as a stack of bank notes (which do stack in your inventory) and trade that with another player. Now he can take those notes to any of the Runescape banks in the world and deposit it as the actual items.
